Antenatal care also known as prenatal care is a process / checkups done by doctor from pregnancy to delivery. Its goal is to provide regular check-ups that allow doctor to treat and prevent health problems during the course of pregnancy and to promote healthy well-being that benefit both mother and child.
Routine prenatal care played an important part in reducing the frequency of maternal death, miscarriages, birth defects, low birth weight, neonatal infections and other preventable health problems.
At each visit, the pregnant woman will have a chance to discuss any questions or concerns. Doctor will examine the abdomen to ascertain the position and size of baby. Urine, blood pressure and weight gain will be checked at basic level.
